End of the 2016 Fall Semester Reflection
It has been a very busy semester! In the midst of teaching classes, my own coursework and preparation of my DMA project, there are two notable extra-curricular projects I am super happy to have the opportunity to be involved with:
Larry Rosen (left) with Dave Grusin
It was an honor to contribute my arrangement of This Time I'll Be Sweeter featuring Cyrille Aimée for the first JAZZ ROOTS concert of the year at the Adrienne Arscht Center. The evening was a tribute to the legendary producer and GRP Records founder, Larry Rosen - with a star-studded cast that performed many of Rosen's including Dave Grusin, Arturo Sandoval, Diane Schuur, Cyrille Aimée, Will Downing, The New York Voices, the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, and new Jazz Roots Artistic Advisor, Shelly Berg. It was a fantastic night that paid tribute to Rosen, who launched the JAZZ ROOTS series here in Miami -and what a wonderful way to kick off the 2016 - 2017 JAZZ ROOTS season!
Gordon Goodwin
Patti Austin
In early December, I will have the pleasure of conducting a 20-piece string orchestra session for an upcoming Patti Austin album, arranged and produced by Gordon Goodwin! The recording will take place at the newly renovated Weeks Recording Studio at the University of Miami. I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to help contribute to a fantastic project with these amazing musicians!
